A new energy paradigm readies for take-off

THIS year, if all goes to plan, Bertrand Piccard and Andre Borschberg will be the first pilots to circumnavigate the world in a solar-powered plane. Solar Impulse 2 will be the only aeroplane of perpetual endurance, able to fly day and night without a drop of fuel, thanks to its thin-film solar cells, clean energy motors and super-efficient batteries.

Damon has been writing about energy in Asia Pacific since 2006.

A regular contributor to Petroleum Economist magazine, Damon focuses on politics and economics of the industry, as well as upstream, unconventional and liquefied natural gas (LNG) market trends. He also covers the transition to new energy systems and technologies, as well as renewables and climate-related issues.

Damon started his journalism career at Reuters. Next he joined Upstream – The International Oil & Gas Newspaper as a reporter and sub-editor.

Before writing about energy, Damon worked on oil and gas projects in Far East Russia, Indonesia and Australia.

In his spare time, Damon writes about travel and adventure. A keen photographer, he also provides images for his editorial works, which have been published in award winning magazines like Asian Geographic.
